Halling & Cayo, S.C. was formed in 1985, but it dates its origins to 1970 when attorneys David Walther and David Halling formed a partnership. Both men were litigators, and they had met across the table at the deposition of an elderly client of Mr. Walther's who had been struck from behind on the freeway while driving at approximately 25 miles per hour. When Mr. Halling asked why she had been traveling on the expressway at such a slow rate of speed, Mr. Walther's client replied, with equal measures of incredulity and irritation, “Well, young man, I didn't want my car to tip over!” Walther and Halling followed the deposition with lunch, struck up a friendship, and the partnership ensued. The rest, as they say, is history. The firm has enjoyed an AV rating (the highest conferred by Martindale-Hubbell) since its inception. The later addition of attorneys Richard Cayo, Patricia Grove, Mark Sanders, Christopher Kolb and Scott Burns served to broaden and deepen the firm's practice areas, while retaining its commitment to specialized litigation services. The firm's growth has never been at the expense of its culture of informality, collegiality and collaboration with both colleagues and clients. Its rejection of conventional law firm models has freed it to adopt a more flexible internal organization which permits innovative arrangements with clients and cost-effective, goal oriented services of the highest caliber.
