HISTORY OF LAWTON & CATES S.C.

John A. Lawton and Richard L. Cates formed a partnership in 1958. John Lawton was actively involved with labor law and union work. Dick Cates established the litigation practice.

From 1960 through the present, the number of clients and caseload grew dramatically so additional lawyers and staff were hired. Lawton & Cates formed a professional service corporation in December of 1985. The firm currently has 15 lawyers and 3 lawyers working in an "of counsel" status.

Through the years, lawyers at Lawton & Cates have tried nearly every conceivable type of dispute in nearly every forum. There are very few areas of substantive law in which the firm's lawyers have not worked.
