Tom Taylor joined Johns, Flaherty & Collins in 2004, bringing significant legal experience on regulatory issues and litigation involving physician offices, clinics, hospitals and other health care organizations. Tom's areas of concentration include medical malpractice, physician and provider licensure, and patient confidentiality, along with contract, corporate, employment and health law. As a former compliance officer, Tom has a wealth of experience on Medicare fraud and abuse, as well as other regulatory issues A 1982 honors graduate from the University of Wisconsin Law School in Madison, Wis., Tom went on active military duty with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's Corps in 1983, where he served as a prosecutor and trial defense counsel. In 1986, he returned to civilian life and joined the LaFollette & Sinykin law firm in Madison, Wis. As a trial lawyer, he handled a broad range of personal injury, professional liability, business tort and other cases, concentrating primarily on defense work. Drawing upon his military and private practice experience, Tom became assistant attorney general in the Wisconsin Attorney General's office in 1993. He subsequently was appointed as Deputy Secretary of Commerce where he served for two years before returning to private practice. In 1998, Tom was recruited by the Gundersen Lutheran Health System to serve as vice president and general counsel, and later as chief compliance officer and chief legal officer. There he oversaw legal negotiations and contract development during a significant growth period for the system; provided legal advice and representation to Gundersen Lutheran and its medical staff in medical malpractice, licensure and other proceedings; and became a frequent lecturer on compliance, employment, ethics, patient confidentiality, patient safety, risk management and other topics. Tom is a member of the Wisconsin State Bar and the American Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association and the Health Care Compliance Association. He is admitted to practice law in the State of Wisconsin and in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. True to the Johns, Flaherty & Collins tradition, Tom is and will continue to be an active member of the La Crosse community. He previously has served as a board member for the La Crosse Area Chamber of Commerce, Western Wisconsin Workforce Development and the La Crosse Area Development Corporation. |
