Margaret A. (Peggy) O'Reilly serves as Of Counsel in the Estate Planning section of Zell Law where she brings over 28 years of legal experience with the last 8 years concentrating in the estate planning and Elder Law fields.? Prior to joining Zell Law, she worked with her siblings at The O'Reilly Law Firm, in Herndon, Virginia for three years.? Before moving to Virginia in 2003, Peggy established and ran her own law practice in Massachusetts .? Her practice includes representing clients in a variety of matters such as estate planning, elder law, estate administration, benefits eligibility, healthcare decision making, guardianship, probate and mediation, and previously included litigation in both state and federal courts.
As an elder law attorney, Peggy brings together her experience in estate planning with insight into the issues confronted by older adults.? Her practical knowledge of the elderly allows her to ignore the myths and misconceptions relating to aging, and to empathize with the true physical and mental difficulties that may accompany the aging process.? Peggy maintains connections with other elder service providers, and frequently works in concert with care managers, social workers, financial planners, and other professionals in providing services to meet the particular needs of each client.? She provides advice and assistance to clients and their families concerning many issues including: long term care planning options, assisted living and other congregate community contracts, Medicaid eligibility requirements, long term care insurance coverage, Medicare and Social Security benefits, and nursing home issues, including questions of patients' rights and nursing home quality.? Both in Elder Law and in estate planning, she provides advice for planning and prepares documents to protect the client and the client's assets in the event of disability, and provides representation in proceedings for guardianship or conservatorship where appropriate.?
Peggy is admitted to practice in Virginia and Massachusetts.?? She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, and serves as an officer of the Virginia Chapter.? She has been Certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, one of only twelve attorneys in Virginia to achieve this certification.? She holds a Juris Doctor degree from Northeastern University, and a Bachelor's degree in psychology from Duke University .? While practicing law in Massachusetts, Peggy also studied health law and bioethics at Boston University , taught both undergraduate and law school courses, and spoke frequently to community groups.?
? Peggy grew up in Fairfax County, and returned to live in Herndon after nearly thirty years in the Boston, Massachusetts area.?? She has two fabulous and remarkable adult children, a son in Boston and a daughter in Washington, DC .? She is active in her community, serving on the boards of several non-profit organizations, playing an active role as a member of the Herndon Rotary Club, and singing with the Falls Church based choral group Choralis
