In 1978, Attorney Allen graduated from Anniston High School and subsequently matriculated at Alabama A & M University where he became the Founding President of the Students Political Involvement Organization and later graduated with honors in May 1983 with a B. A. Degree in Political Science.

In 1987, Attorney Allen received his Juris Doctorate degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University. While at Thurgood Marshall, Allen distinguished himself by earning the American Juris Prudence Award for excellent performance in the study of Labor Law and Local Government Law. In 1988, he moved on honing his skills at the law firm of Burney, Caggins & Hartsfield in Houston, Texas before going into private practice in 1990.

Today, Mr.?Allen is the Managing Partner with the Law Offices of Scottie D. Allen & Associates in Dallas, Texas where he practices primarily as a Criminal Defense Attorney who has successfully secured hundreds of "not guilty" verdicts for indigent defendants in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and California. He is a frequent speaker at schools and churches, and has devoted his resources to improving the political, educational, social and economic status of the disenfranchised.

Attorney Allen is a member of the State Bar of Texas; American Bar Association; Dallas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association; Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association; J. L Turner Legal Society; Mexican American Bar Association; Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; The Kentucky Colonels; Who's Who Among American Lawyers; Board of Directors member for the Dallas NAACP; and in 1991, was commissioned Admiral in the Texas Navy by former Governor Ann Richards.

In 1999, Attorney Allen was nominated as one of the Top Ten Criminal Trial Lawyers in the State of Texas and in 2001, received special recognition from Dallas Mayors for his exceptional leadership, faithfulness, loyalty and dedication to the citizens of Dallas. In April 2002, Attorney Allen was the recipient of the SCLC Drum Major for Justice Award.

Attorney Allen is married to Attorney Cynthia Woolen Allen and they have six children.
