The law firm began in 1963 as Jones, Minton & Burton in the Red Brick Building next to the Courthouse at 1100 Guadalupe where its main office is still located. Since that time, the firm has had a widely diverse civil and criminal practice representing, among others, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives Billy Clayton, Attorney General Jim Mattox, Governor Ann Richards and her office, Lt. Governor Bob Bullock, Land Commissioner David Dewhurst, Comptroller Carole Keeton Rylander, other elected officials, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Guadalupe Blanco River Authority, Southern Union Gas Company, Reliant Energy (formerly Houston Lighting & Power), Phillips Petroleum, BMC Software, Wackenhut Corrections Corporation, Vector Capital, L.P. and many city and county governments as well corporations, law firms and individuals.

Today, the firm has?eight attorneys located in two offices within a few blocks of the Courthouse.

MBF&C specializes in the trial of cases in all areas of the law. The substantive areas in which we practice most frequently are:

Civil Litigation

Our practice spans virtually all areas of civil litigation. We find ourselves on both the plaintiff and defense sides of the docket, involved in tort, contract, regulatory and appellate matters on a regular basis.

Criminal Law

The firm has its roots in criminal law, which remains a strong practice area today. Four of our lawyers are Board Certified Criminal Law Specialists. We work in the state and federal court systems at both the felony and misdemeanor level representing persons who have been charged with criminal offenses. We also represent companies and individuals in investigations which might lead to criminal charges.

Family Law

The firm also has four family law practitioners who represent people in divorces; custody, support and visitation disputes; and adoptions and terminations. Our familiarity with the court system and the other lawyers who practice family law in and around Austin help us to provide meaningful advice to our clients in these areas.
