THE FIRM The law firm of Cantey & Hanger is now well into its second hundred? years and is advancing into the third century in which it will make its legal mark. Founded in 1882, by William Capps and Samuel B. Cantey Sr., it is the oldest law firm in Fort Worth and one of the oldest in Texas. Its beginnings preceded the completion of the existing Tarrant County Courthouse by twelve years and Dallas County's "Old Red" Courthouse by nine years. Capps & Cantey had been in business for six years before the present state Capitol was completed.

The firm's early lawyers traveled all over north Texas, central Texas and beyond from their Fort Worth base, directed by the needs of the clients. The end of the 20^th Century would see the firm have additional offices in Dallas, Austin and the nation's capital.

The firm has participated in an incredible spectrum of history. From that participation it has learned the necessity of accepting or making change from horse-back travel to computer-driven technology and all the stops in between. The future is a challenge, but always "doable."

The core of Cantey & Hanger's reputation in and outside the Fort Worth/Dallas/Austin areas is its staff of almost 90 attorneys, who are graduates of a diverse group of law schools. Past and present, many have achieved prominence in the legal profession, the community and the state.

Among Cantey & Hanger's early clients were pioneer banks, utilities, transportation companies and food processors. Those areas still are strongly represented, along with insurance companies, energy and related firms, manufacturers, hospital and health organizations, municipalities and other governmental entities. These and other diverse areas of representation, along with individual clients, provide great stability.
