Francis B. Nicholson was a graduate of Wofford College and the University of South Carolina Law School.? He joined the firm in 1956.? He was elected to the State Senate, and in 1967 was named Judge of the Eighth Judicial Circuit where he served until his death in 1984.

Nicholson, Sr., served several terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives, and he later served as Senator for Greenwood County.? In 1934, as Senator, he sponsored the creation of Lake Greenwood (then known as Buzzard Roost Hydro-electric Project).? He argued the case to the United States Supreme Court when the Duke Power Company intervened to oppose the project.
