Mari Alice received her B.A., Cum Laude, from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1995, where she majored in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resource Management and Labor Relations. She obtained her J.D. from Cleveland Marshall College of Law in 1999, and is licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio. She was admitted to practice before the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in 2002.

Mari Alice is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys. She is also a member of the Associate Board of the Free Clinic of Greater Cleveland, where she participates in organizing fund raising events, developing awareness of the organization, and increasing volunteer involvement. Additionally, Mari Alice has been an active alumni member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, in the roles of Vice Dean of the Fraternity, and Trustee of the William H. Thomas Foundation.

Prior to joining Whalen & Compton, Mari Alice was a Paralegal in the School Law area from 1990 until her graduation from law school in 1999. She has conducted extensive legal research and has been instrumental in preparing legal opinions, policy language, board resolutions, arbitration briefs, court briefs and speeches. She practices in the areas of litigation, grievance arbitration, discrimination charges, policy revision, and general counseling of school boards.
