John H. Gross
A graduate of the Cornell School of Industrial Labor Relations and Cornell University Law School, Mr. Gross has actively represented school districts in education law, labor relations and employment law for more than 25 years. In addition to an active court litigation and appellate practice, he frequently litigates before the Commissioner of Education, teacher tenure discharge tribunals, the State Division of Human Rights, labor arbitrations and the Public Employment Relations Board. Mr. Gross has also served as Board Counsel and /or labor counsel for colleges, as well as counsel for municipalities. He has represented chief school officers including a Chancellor of the City School District of the City of New York and several Superintendents of large city school districts throughout the United States. Mr. Gross was appointed to the position of arbitrator in federal court by the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District. He has served the 3,000 member Suffolk County Bar Association as Secretary, Treasurer, Second Vice President, First Vice President, President-Elect and President. He has also been a member of the New York State Bar Association House of Delegates, its statewide Nomination Committee, and has served as Suffolk County's delegate to the American Bar Association. Mr. Gross is a fellow of the New York State Bar Association Foundation and has served as Chairperson of the New York State Bar Association Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. He has addressed many organizations and participated in a vast number of seminars and instructional programs concerning public sector labor relations and education law. Among the organizations Mr. Gross has addressed are the New York State School Boards Association, the New York State Bar Association, Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association, the New York State Council of Chief School Officers, the National Association of Education Negotiators, the Nassau Academy of Law, and the Suffolk Academy of Law. Furthermore, Mr. Gross has taught courses covering such diverse subjects as education law, collective bargaining, and labor law, and has participated in numerous seminars focusing on education law and labor negotiations throughout the country. Mr. Gross was recently appointed by the President of the New York State Bar Association to the position of Chairman of a Special New York State Bar Association Task Force on the creation of a judicial ombudsman program. In addition, Mr. Gross was recently appointed by New York State Chief Judge Judith Kaye as a founding member of the New York State Judicial Institute on Professionalism in the Law.
