I was born and raised in Superior, Wisconsin. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1978 and the University of Illinois College of Law in 1981. I have been licensed to practice law in Minnesota since 1981, in the United States District Court of Minnesota since 1986 and in Wisconsin since 1993. After graduating from law school I worked as a claims adjuster for American Family Insurance Company, handling all types of claims, including workers compensation. This job provided excellent preparation for going into the private practice of law. I have been in private practice since 1985 and have been a solo practitioner since 1995.

I have represented clients in many areas of the law, but since 1987 have focused primarily on workers compensation cases. I decided to focus on these clients because I found they seemed to have the most trouble recovering from their injuries, in large part because of the tremendous barriers put in their way by the insurance companies and the court system. I have represented thousands of clients at all levels of the Minnesota and Wisconsin workers compensation systems to date.

In my spare time I am a Destination Imagination coach, I volunteer at my church, cross country ski, bicycle, golf (badly) and read. I am married and have a very active 9 year old son.
