Donald T. Morrison began the practice of law as a trial associate with Morgan, Halligan & Lanoff in Chicago in 1955. In 1961, he was appointed a special Assistant Attorney General. The firm began as a single proprietorship at 9 North County Street, Waukegan, Illinois in 1961. Donald T. Morrison was the sole principal, and engaged in the general practice of law with emphasis on civil litigation.

In 1964, William J. Nemanich joined the firm, and the firm then became known as Morrison & Nemanich. The practice continued in the field of general litigation, and began practice in the field of probate and real estate law. Mr. Terrence J. Brady joined the firm in 1972. Mr. Brady left the firm to become a Lake County Associate Circuit Judge in 1978, and Mr. Henry C. Tonigan, III joined the firm. Christopher C. Starck then joined the firm as an additional associate.

In 1980, Mr. Nemanich left the firm, and the name of the firm was changed to Donald T. Morrison & Associates, P.C. The practice was then concentrated in eminent domain, plaintiff's negligence, hospital law, and general civil litigation. Plaintiff's negligence practice included medical malpractice, product liability and construction negligence. Representative clients then included American International Hospital, the Lake County Forest Preserve District, and McDonald's Corporation. At that time, the firm moved to its present quarters in the Morrison Law Center. Mr. Tonigan left the firm to become a Lake County Associate Circuit Judge in 1982, and Joseph T. Morrison joined the firm. Peter Weil and William A. Cogley joined the firm in 1986, and the practice then included substantial concentration in zoning and environmental law, and Waste Management Company became a client of the firm.

Margaret Morrison Borcia and Raymond D. Collins joined the firm in 1989. In 1992, Joseph T. Morrison became a shareholder in the firm, and the name of the firm was changed to Morrison & Morrison, a professional corporation. In 1993, the practice of civil litigation then included corporate and business litigation, along with municipal law. In 1993, Peter Weil left the firm for practice in environmental law with a large Chicago firm, and shortly after that, William A. Cogley became assistant corporation counsel for the City of Elgin. Raymond D. Collins left the firm in 1994 to become full time attorney for the Village of Round Lake Beach.

Donald J. Morrison joined the firm in 1999 having been a felony division prosecuting attorney for the State's Attorney of Lake County.
