William T. McGrath
has practiced in the fields of intellectual property and business litigation since 1976. His primary areas of concentration are copyright, trademark, and computer law, as well as publishing law, entertainment law, trade secret law, software licensing, and other matters relating to the high-tech and information industry including issues relating to the Year 2000 Problem. His practice involves issues relating to the ownership, licensing, protection and infringement of intellectual property rights. He has experience not only in counseling and litigation in these areas, but also in arbitration and mediation.
Mr. McGrath is an adjunct faculty member at The John Marshall Law School where he teaches Copyright Law and International Copyright Law in the graduate program. He has also taught a course on the Legal Aspects of the Year 2000 Problem. He is President of the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago and a Past Chair of the Patent, Trademark & Copyright Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the Copyright Society of the USA.
He received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from Washington University. He is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court as well as the Seventh Circuit and the Federal Circuit. He is a member of the Trial Bar in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
He is the author of numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on copyright and computer law issues. He serves as Associate Editor of the Year 2000 Features for the Computer Litigation Journal.
