John R. Tait began his practice with Paul Keeton in 1974, having graduated from Columbia College, New York, in 1968, and Vanderbilt University School of Law, Nashville,?TN,?in 1974. He also served in the US Army, as a Counterintelligence Special Agent, after graduation from the Army Military Intelligence School, Fort Holabird, MD, January 1969, ?and receiving a Top Secret Security Clearance. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the US District Court for Idaho and the Nez Perce Tribal Court.
Mr. Tait's practice has included a large number of worker's compensation cases as well as personal injury, insurance, discrimination, real property, condemnation, business, contract and family law cases. He has been a Special Deputy Attorney General for the Bureau of Child Support for many years.
Mr. Tait has been active in the legal profession having served as Clearwater Bar President, member and Chairman of the Idaho State Bar Ethics Committee and Board member of the Worker's Compensation Section of the Idaho State Bar. He was elected Chair of the Worker's Compensation Section for 2004 and 2005. He has served many years on the Board of the Idaho Trial Lawyers and served 25 years on the State Board of Idaho Legal Aid Services. He has received awards from the State Bar and Legal Services for his legal work for disadvantaged citizens.
Mr. Tait is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Consumer Attorneys of California and served on the Board of the Workers Injury Law and Advocacy Group.
Mr. Tait was nominated by the President of the United States and found qualified by the ABA to serve as United States District Judge for Idaho, but his nomination was one of many that were blocked for political reasons.
Mr. Tait has been listed in Who's Who in American Law since 1985 and Who's Who in America since 1998.
Mr. Tait has argued a number of cases before the Idaho Supreme Court including those involving landlord and tenant law, crop dusting, motor vehicle negligence, cattle grazing permits, debtor-creditor law and worker's compensation including recently a case against Liberty Northwest Insurance where costs and fees were assessed against the employer and insurance company and one against Potlatch Corporation where his representation of his client was described as "vigorous" by the Court.
Mr. Tait has served on numerous regional, state and local boards to improve our community, including the Lewiston Historic Preservation Commission, St. Joseph' s Regional Medical Center Foundation, the Idaho Housing Agency and he is currently on the Board of the Lewiston Independent Foundation for Education.
Mr. Tait is married to a Lewiston physician and they have two grown children. |
