After earning an undergraduate degree at Princeton University, DEAN C. COLSON graduated magna cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1977. Upon graduation, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Peter T. Fay, United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. In 1980, Mr. Colson was a law clerk for Justice William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States. Mr. Colson joined Colson Hicks Eidson in 1981. He focused his practice on personal injury and commercial cases. In the past decade, his practice has varied from the handling of many multi-million dollar malpractice, aviation and products liability cases for injured plaintiffs to defending the local newspaper in significant libel litigation to representing and being trial counsel for the class of investors defrauded in the Premium Sales case, which settled after the start of trial for $170 million. Mr. Colson is a past President of the Dade County Bar Association and a past member of The Florida Bar Board of Governors. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. Mr. Colson is committed to civic and community affairs. He is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Miami. He has previously served as Chairman of the University’s Executive Committee, Chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Law School’s Visiting Committee. In 2000, Mr. Colson was appointed by Florida Governor Jeb Bush to Florida’s Commission on Ethics. In 2002, Mr. Colson was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission. In 2004, he was elected Chairman of the Supreme Court JNC. Mr. Colson was President of the Orange Bowl Committee in 2003 and was Chairman of the 1995 Super Bowl XXIX Host Committee. Additionally, Mr. Colson serves on the board of directors of numerous charitable organizations in South Florida. In 1995, he received the Mayor of Miami’s “Citizen of the Year” award for his commitment to the betterment of his community, and in 1996 he was named Sportsman of the Year by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Miami. |
