RICHARD D. HEIDEMAN SENIOR COUNSEL
Richard D. Heideman was born in Detroit, Michigan, is a graduate of The University of Michigan, the National Law Center of the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., has attended the National College of Criminal Defense Lawyers in Houston, Texas and completed the American University Law and Policy Institute at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. Mr. Heideman is a member of the American Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, both the District of Columbia Bar and the Bar Association of the District of Columbia, as well as numerous State Trial Lawyers Associations, State Bar Associations and their Criminal Law and Civil Litigation Sections. He has served as Vice President of the Teton County, Wyoming Bar Association, is a former member of the Resident Faculty of the National College of Criminal Defense Lawyers and currently serves as the Vice Chair of both the Legislative and Membership Committees of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mr. Heideman was elected by the members of the DC Bar Association to a three year term on the Steering Committee for the Criminal Law and Individual Rights Section and has separately been named Chairman of the Criminal Law Committee of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. Mr. Heideman has been a Registered Lobbyist with the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives for Health Care America, Inc. and serves as President of The Heideman International Group, Inc. an affiliate of the law firm which engages in joint ventures and international trade transactions.
Mr. Heideman is licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia, as well as the States of Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky and Wyoming, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the District of Columbia, the District of Maryland, the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, the Western District of Wisconsin and the District of Wyoming. In addition he is admitted to practice before the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth, Sixth, Seventh and Federal Circuits, before the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the United States Court of International Trade, the United States Court of Claims and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Heideman has practiced law with the trial law firm of Spence, Moriarity & Schuster in Jackson, Wyoming and founded this law firm in 1973. He concentrates his legal services as an experienced Criminal Defense, Civil and Corporate Trial Lawyer, with additional emphasis on Corporate Development, Health Care and International Trade and Finance Matters. Mr. Heideman has appeared on CNN's Burden of Proof, Fox Morning News in Washington and as a legal analyst for CBS TV in Washington providing commentary on the O.J. Simpson criminal and civil cases, the criminal trial involving former NBC Sportscaster Marv Albert and analysis of the verdict in the Oklahoma City bombing. He has recently appeared on America's Voice National Television as a legal analyst commenting on the decision granting summery judgment to President Clinton in the Paula Jones civil case. Mr. Heideman has previously tried a murder case which was broadcast live on Court TV.
Active in numerous civic affairs, Mr. Heideman presently serves as President of B'nai B'rith International, the world's largest Jewish organization, having been elected in August 1998 at its International Convention in Jerusalem and having previously served four years as the elected Senior International Chairman of the Center for Public Policy of B'nai B'rith International, and having held numerous other leadership positions in B'nai B'rith International, including Chairman of the Political Action Network of B'nai B'rith, Chairman of the B'nai B'rith Young Leadership. He also serves as President of The American-Israel Chamber of Commerce, Inc. of Washington, DC and serves on the Executive Committee of the National Conference on Soviet Jewry. Mr. Heideman, with his wife Phyllis, served as Celebration Co-Chair for the 1998 Embassy of Israel 50th
Anniversary Celebration at Union Station, Washington, DC. He has served as delegate to the World Jewish Congress, the World Zionist Organization, and the Jewish Agency for Israel. Mr. Heideman was an NGO delegate to the United Nations World Conference on Women in Nairobi, Kenya in 1985 and currently sits on the Executive Committee of the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, the National Conference on Soviet Jewry, and as a National Commissioner of the Anti-Defamation League. Mr. Heideman is former Chairman of the Board of the American Indoor Soccer Association, and has served as Co-chairman of the Greater Louisville/Jefferson County Sports Commission Planning Committee. He has completed service as a member of the Board of Directors of Northern Virginia Family Service, the Board of Directors of Health Care for America, Inc., and is a past member of the Board of Governors for the International Association of Jewish Lawyers and Jurists.
Mr. Heideman is a Past International President of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization and was listed in Outstanding Young Men of America
in 1980. He received the Label A. Katz Young Leadership Award from B'nai B'rith International in 1983 and together with his family received the B'nai B'rith International Family Award in 1981. He was designated in "People to Watch" in Louisville Magazine in 1986 and together with his wife, Phyllis, received the Heritage Award from State of Israel Bonds in 1988.
