Ms. Abitanta currently works on cases involving consumer class action litigation, representing several large groups of workers who have been improperly denied overtime pay. Since 1983, she has gained extensive experience in insurance bad faith and insurance coverage, representing both insured and insurer, multi-party consumer actions, intellectual property, ERISA and employment discrimination. Ms. Abitanta earned her J.D., cum laude, at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1983. She was Assistant Editor-In-Chief of SMU's Southwestern Law Journal, a member of Phi Delta Phi, and graduated Order of the Coif. Ms. Abitanta attended the University of Louisville where she received a bachelor's degree in English and Humanities in 1971. A dedicated high school teacher from 1971-1980, Ms. Abitanta also coached six varsity sports, played the oboe, acted in amateur plays and directed a girls' camp in upstate New York. Ms. Abitanta is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, ATLA and CAALA. She is the author of "Bifurcation of Liability and Damages in Rule 23(b)(3) Class Actions; History, Policy, Problems and a Solution," 36 Southwestern Law Journal 743 (1983). She is especially proud of her pro bono work in the past with Public Counsel and other charitable organizations. |
